Terms of Service

1. These terms

These terms govern use of Postrider (postrider.uk), a mailing-list and email-sending service operated by Chris White, trading as Postrider (“we”, “us”). By registering an organisation (“you”, “your organisation”) or using an account we've set up for you, you agree to these terms and to our Acceptable Use Policy, which is part of this agreement.

2. What Postrider is

Postrider lets an organisation send email campaigns and run reflector-style discussion lists to its own members, with per-list opt-out, delivery tracking, and (on paid plans) automated content review and deliverability monitoring. It is not a general-purpose bulk email tool for lists you don't already have a relationship with — see the Acceptable Use Policy.

3. Accounts and authorisation

You must be authorised to act on behalf of the organisation you register, and to confirm — as the signup form requires — that the organisation has a lawful basis to email the people you intend to add to its lists. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity on your account.

4. Plans and billing

Postrider offers a free plan with fixed subscriber and sending limits, and paid plans (currently Growth and Scale) with higher limits, billed monthly via Stripe. Paid plans include a flat monthly fee plus metered charges for sending beyond the plan's included allowance. You can cancel a paid plan at any time from your billing settings; on cancellation your account moves to the free plan rather than being deleted, and continues to work within the free plan's limits. We don't currently offer pro-rated refunds for a mid-cycle cancellation.

5. Your content and your subscribers' data

You own the subscriber lists and content you upload or send through Postrider. We process that data only to provide the service to you, as described in our Privacy Notice — we don't use it for our own marketing, sell it, or share it with other tenants. You're responsible for having a proper legal basis to hold and email the subscriber data you add to Postrider.

6. Automated content review

Campaigns are automatically screened before sending for spam, phishing, or scam characteristics. A campaign flagged by this check is held rather than sent, pending manual review by us. This is a safety mechanism for the shared sending infrastructure every tenant relies on, not a guarantee that every message will be reviewed by a human before it reaches subscribers.

7. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or restrict an account that: breaches the Acceptable Use Policy; generates bounce or spam complaint rates that put the shared sending infrastructure's reputation at risk (monitored automatically); has a failed or overdue payment on a paid plan; or where we reasonably believe the account is being used fraudulently or unlawfully. Where practical we'll tell you why an account has been suspended and what would need to change to lift it. You may stop using Postrider and close your account at any time by contacting us.

8. Availability

We aim to keep Postrider available and reliable, built on established infrastructure (AWS SES, Vercel, Neon), but we don't currently offer a formal uptime service-level agreement, and the service is provided on an “as is” basis while it's in this stage of its life. We'll give notice where practical before planned maintenance that would affect sending.

9. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits or lost business) arising from your use of Postrider. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't lawfully be limited, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Changes

We may update these terms as the service develops. Where a change is material, we'll aim to notify active tenant accounts by email before it takes effect. Continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
